Invest in yourself, Invest in your craft!

Its time to invest in yourself and in your craft. I have these Westcott Flex Lights in my headshot studio with white backdrop in the background.

People often question whether it's worth it to buy a new tool, pay for a course, or a new headshot. Well, I'm here to tell you it is absolutely worth its weight in gold.

I have heard countless times from peers and even from my wife… ”Why are you paying X amount of money for this?”. The question you have to ask yourself is how can I keep making progress if I’m struggling to succeed with what I already know or have? The answer to that question will always be to invest in yourself. Adding a new course or a certification to your resume will add a ton of value. It can be the difference between who gets hired and who doesn't, as well as the difference between getting paid $15 and $50 dollars per hour.

A great first impression is key to being remembered. Do you really think an interviewer or recruiter will remember you out of 20, or 40 people he talked to today? They should because you are here reading this article learning something new and you know that investing in yourself will help you stand out from the crowd. A professional headshot for example can help you stand out by showing that you care about the quality of your appearance. It separates a professional and an amateur. It sets the bar for what they can expect from you as an employee.

Buying a new tool can make all the difference. I recently invested in a lighting system that is at the top of its class, and in 3 sessions it already paid itself off. In doing so the value and quality of my work have skyrocketed. Why? The answer is simple because now I can set up my equipment and forget about it. All the time I would spend fiddling with my old equipment was time I was not focusing on my job, and most importantly, my client.

In the service industry, the most important thing for a business should not be profit. It should always be the client experience because if you listen to your clients and take care of them, they will keep coming back. Take Walmart and Target for example. Why is it that people always go into Target for one thing and come out with a cart full and not at Walmart? Because Target invests more time in the appearance of its stores and product placement to guide its customers through the entire store and give them more opportunities to buy. It’s all in the details, and of course, the customer experience.

If you have made it this far, I’ll leave you with these quotes below from Bob Proctor,

“Money is not meant to be taken out of circulation — rather, it is meant to be used, enjoyed, and circulated!”

“Ninety-five people out of a hundred settle for whatever they get, wishing they had more all the way from the cradle to the casket, never understanding that they could actually have had all they wanted.”

Stop worrying about money and if you should or should not. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

Invest in yourself and invest in your craft. If you don’t put yourself first no one else will.
