  1. Eye Contact

  2. Lighting

  3. Color

  4. Physical Change

    Conclusion

Eye Contact

1 - Headshots with eyes looking straight into that camera have a higher impact and are better for building trust with your clients. By making proper eye contact, you are effectively communicating to your clients "you have my attention" and "you are important to me".

Lighting

2 - Lighting can make or break your headshot. I always recommend people go with a headshot specialist vs just any photographer because making sure all the attention is on your face is their bread and butter. Having such little real estate on your profile, you want to make sure your face is prominent and lit in a flattering way.

Color

3 - People sometimes decide to save a few bucks and take a quick selfie or have a friend with a camera take their picture. What is often overlooked is that because of the lighting or environment you're in, the colors don't come through as they should. Grass, concrete, colored walls, etc. can reflect light and in turn, cast their color or weird shadows onto your face.

Physical Change

4 - If you are anything like me, your appearance has probably fluctuated a bit over the years. You gained or lost weight, changed your hair color and style, grew or shaved your facial hair, or no longer dress how you used to.

Conclusion

Whatever it may be, CONSISTENCY IS KEY! You need to make sure that the same person your clients see in your photos, is the same person they meet in person. Remember, it is all about building a level of trust from day 1 when they see your headshot for the first time.
